OK Pochman,

I truly love the 1989 tribute with the cards.  However, today's card makes me feel like an inherited run should just round the bases and score for some reason. :)

ha, I know what you mean, but I can't leave him off. That team was far from perfect, but fun as hell to watch

but yes, you're right..Assenmacher was pretty bad

Pochman, that 89 team really is when I went "all in" as a Cubs Fan.  I was 13 and lived day to day to see what Walton, Sandberg, and Gracie had done.

Speaking of Assenmacher though, go check out a picture of Trever Miller of the Rays.  He looks like he could be Assenmacher's son.  A friend of mine pointed him out to me a couple of weeks back and it is scary how much he looks like him.

perhaps the best part of Assenmacher being part of the team was hearing Harry butcher his name.
spit flying everywhere when Harry was toasty towards the end of a ball game

"Asshhenffffmaker takes the mound"

yup, me too. I was too young in 84 to really be hurt by it. I was at yesterday's game and sat by the left field foul pole. I had flash backs of being there in 89, during a double header. I had standing room only tix (as many of my tickets were that year). I stood by the fence closest to the pole and Dunston hit a HR down the line, and I saw it flying towards me perfectly just fair.
ah..good times. The 89 playoffs were a nice slap in the face though and a nice welcoming to Cub fandom.

I even had a "wild bunch" t-shirt with the 89 starters drawn as caricatures. what a geek

Ahhhh memories.....

My favorite Harry call was back when we had Kent Bottenfield and he was getting bombed daily.  Harry was a bit loaded and we went to the 'pen.  Harry says "OK, Steve, who is that coming out of the bullpen.....OH God, It's Bottenfiled!"  You could hear the pure displeasure in his voice.  I miss Harry.  Don't you agree that he would love Ryan Theriot the most off of this year's team?

Must admit, had the same shirt.  Even worse, after I outgrew it, I cut out the picture of it and had it framed in my dorm room throughout my college years.  I don't care that that makes me a huge Cub Geek.
